Talk

A Graduate School Project

Project Highlights: Figma, Wireframing, User Research, Mid/Hi-Fi Prototypes, Branding

Project Scope
& methodology

Project Steps:

  1. Empathize

  2. Define

  3. Ideate

  4. Prototype

  5. Test

Step 1/5

Empathize

This study will primarily use three research methods to collect data: Interviews, Surveys, and Contextual Inquiries. The decision to use these primary research methods was based on the number of participants as well as their availability. Qualitative and Quantitative data were gathered in all three research methods. We also used secondary research in addition to our initial observations as part of our data collection as well.

Step 2

Define

Models and user Personas were created to help organize information gathered from the Empathize stage. Through this thought exercise we created out ideal users.

Goals

  • To improve and streamline communication among staff.

  • To establish a common “dialect” (through the use of colors, shapes, etc) for clarity
    among staff.

  • To maximize efficiency while decreasing task usage time.

Step 3

Ideate

After defining the ideal user. We established the key tasks:

  • Joshua is working along-with his co-workers using a communication app to enhance their efficiency during a busy Friday evening shift.

  • They used the app to allocate various tasks for the different staff members such as waiters, host and bussers.

  • The Host can assign table to the customers and notify further to the Joshua regarding that.

  • Once he receives an update from host, Joshua arrives to the table for service and taking orders from customers.

  • While serving the customers, Joshua observed a table which needed to be cleaned and he also update the Busser regarding the tables that needed cleaning, and he can further update his finished task to the host so that it can be assigned for new arriving customers.

  • Once he receives an update from the host, Joshua arrives to the table for service and taking orders from customers.

  • Joshua feels that the app helped him multitask and saved him time, leading to a successful and stress-free shift.

Step 4

Prototype

Feedback from user testing:

  • Certain issues were found with user control and freedom.

  • Flow was easy to determine and functioned as designed.

  • Pleasurable design that needed few adjustments.

Design Updates:

  • Simplify login and process of key task.

  • Look/feel of the design solution

Step 5

Test

Based on the testing results from the prototypes, we also attempted to create a high fidelity version of the prototypes. This is the first version of the TALK product.

Reflection and Future Plans

Project Summary:

  • The initial observations indicated communication lapses in a busy environment, and led us to design website that provided for easy,
    efficient communication.

  • The end result is for the user to have seamless communication to accomplish more with less while being attentive to their environment.
